For all of my #TeamNatural lovelies, the 18th Annual Locks Conference starts today! The Natural Hair, Wholistic Health and Beauty Expo is today and tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Imhotep Charter High School. Organized by the Kuumba Family Organizing Committee, the weekend event not only focuses on black hair, it also provides “cultural, educational and even very spiritual experiences as well as promoting do for self and buy black.”
The conference was founded and produced by the late Sharon Cynthia Ellawesia Leonard Goodman, a Temple University journalism alum, poet, publisher and entrepreneur. It is now continued in her honor by the Kuuamba Family Organizing Committee, a group of skilled and dedicated individuals who firmly believe in Marcus Garvey’s words:
History teaches us no race, no people, no nation has ever been freed through cowardice, through cringing, through bowing and scraping, but all that has been achieved to the glory of mankind, to the glory and honor of races and nations was through the manly determination and effort of those who lead and those who are led.
The Locks Conference offers a marketplace, hair show and competition, live music, spoken word, educational films, Afrikan dancing, workshops, panels and discussions–all for your enjoyment [and enlightenment].
Catch SS there and consider coming out to support this ever-growing event!
– Sincerely Syreeta
