December 2012 was packed with events that I had the pleasure to be a part of.
One such event was The Inter-Communal Giveback Feast & Concert held by Sporty Marketing, Mic Check 1-TWO and The Circle Entertainment. The second annual, FREE event travels to different under-served Philadelphia communities each year, offering a “hot meal, gently-used clothing, non-perishable food items, and an evening of entertainment for community members”.
This year, comedian, Evan Polk and I hosted the event which included a delicious spread thanks to both Mia & Me Catering and Drunken Sushi Catering; an apparel market-place organized and operated with the assistance of Rising Sons, SCH CAPA and other influential organizations; ginger-bread house activities for the kids; great music courtesy of DJ G33k; an on-site photographer and more.
The main portion of the event consisted of an entertainment showcase that included performances from the following credited and talented artists: Band 4 Higher, August, Miss Tiff, Shayana Singleton- (belly dancing), Aime, TeFF, Jermaine Dolly, Aquil, VeNT, S.K., Suzann Christine and Sela.
The more I’m afforded to host events such as this, the more I enjoy doing it and falling deeper in love with Philly! We may not do everything perfectly here, but one thing is for sure: there are people and organizations such as Sporty Marketing, Mic Check 1-TWO and The Circle Entertainment who are committed to supporting and nourishing our communities in every way possible.
