This week was supposed to have been my “easing” back on to the scene and into the swing of SS business. HA!
Thursday night alone was enough to submerge me back into all that is SS’s love affair with Philly and its various scenes.
And I couldn’t be more happy. 😉
Anywho, here’s the SS on the Scene recap of December 1-7th, 2013!
Ebony Edwards Presents: Workshop Party for Event Planners
Go to the Yahoo Local search engine and type in “event planners” in “Philadelphia” and over 800 results come back.
That doesn’t even include those who have planned all of TWO events and now claim that they’re an event planner with “extensive experience”.
Celebrity Event Planner, Ebony Edwards of Events by LFG, is a woman who knows her stuff and knows what to do with it–and she isn’t hesitant to share the wealth of knowledge that she possesses about effective and creative event planning. And since her creative work won her “Best of Philadelphia” in the Philadelphia Magazine, she is a woman worthy of actually listening to. The added bonus? She keeps a network of people who are worthy of the same in their respective industries.
This came in especially handy for her Workshop Party for Event Planners held at the Chestnut Hill Hotel on the evening of Dec. 5th. Edwards brought together some of the most knowledgeable in the floral, graphic design, and business industries in hopes of educating and empowering those interested in event planning and entrepreneurship. Expert presenters included Edwards; graphic designer, Diona Murray of DionaNicole.com; business structure expert, Terri Matthews of Jaden’s Voice; floral and event designer, David Alexander; and business developer, Caron Nikole of Impact Boutique. There was also a guest appearance from Councilwoman At-Large Blondell Reynolds-Brown, who provided some background on the ties between business and politics.

PNK Elephant Presents: Korbel’s Bubbles & Berries
The holiday season is the perfect time to show ones appreciation for the customers who contribute to your business’ success.
PNK Elephant is one business who believe’s this, hence their Korbel’s Bubbles & Berries held at Infusion Lounge in Philadelphia’s, Old City. PNK hosted free giveaways of their “favorite thing’s” as they mix and mingled with loyal customers, supporters and party-goers. Some of their “favorite things” giveaway included a pair of Tom Ford shoes, extensions, and #FitGirlFresh apparel by FBF Fitness, which yours truly had the pleasure of winning! The apparel came just in time for FBF’s FitGirlFresh Weekend taking place two days later [which I also attended–continue scrolling for that coverage].
Thank you PNK Elephant for a fun time! The customer-appreciation was felt and well…appreciated! Haha! 😉

Affairs of Isis Holiday Soiree
One thing I love about the holiday season: HOLIDAY PARTIES…especially those with a great cause!
This year, Affairs of Isis brought their 13th annual Isis Holiday Soiree to West Philly’s Urban Art Gallery. Attendees were encouraged to bring new and/or gently used children’s books for students ages 3 – 18 years of age to donate to Philadelphia School Libraries. The evening included a featured menu of lamb, pasta salad, grilled vegetables and more from Eatible Delights Catering; entertainment; an open bar; a midnight Champagne toast; and treats sure to satisfy our holiday sweet tooth.

Fatin Dantzler’s (of Kindred The Family Soul) Birthday Extravaganza
When I turn 40 I need a birthday party like the one Fatin had at Philly’s beloved, Ms. Tootsie’s.
The drinks flowed, good music vibrated throughout, people danced and laughed all night, and at any given moment, you might find yourself bumping into a who’s who of the entertainment industry. Special guest appearances and performances included Algernong Allen, a 2013 Democratic contender for State Representative of the 188th legislative district; soul/R&B singer, Jaguar Wright; Tashera Simmons [DMX’s ex-wife] and more.
I was confused at first as to why Al Allen was on the mic and then Fatin explained. Fatin is giving his public support for Al Allen running for state rep and using his celebrity status to draw attention to the cause. This is in part because the “milestone of his 40th b-day is not only being a contributor to the music industry,
but also a contributor to the community in this part of his life,” said his PR rep, Chandra Deal of Lucid Brand Media.
So what’s to come in 2014 for the man so many have come to know, love and respect? The launch of a Philly venue complete with a recording, production, and performance studio, and an open space for any media need. This, in conjunction with his upcoming non-profit, will encourage the inner city creative and performing arts programs. Oh, and of course he’s working on a new album.
But in the mean time, you may want to keep your eye out for more of Fatin’s involvement in political and community affairs.
Now that’s grown man “ish”.

“What happens when you join fitness, fun, fashion and entrepreneurship?”
According to the curating brand, Fck Being Fat: FIT Girl FRESH Weekend, that’s what.
FGF Weekend was a day-long series of events that promoted health, fitness and business for females age 11 and beyond. Held at Sigma Sound, the day included:
FITgirFRESH Teen Summit, hosted by Angela Simmons that focused on health, fitness, positive body image and self-esteem among girls age 11-17. Attendees enjoyed health food samples, a dance workout, Reebok giveaways, and an all female panel and group discussion! The panelists included celebrity entrepreneur and role model, Angela Simmons; plus size model, Ronnie Howard; music and Knights Personal Fitness professional, Aneesah Beyah.
I had the pleasure of attending the FitgirlFRESH Teen Summit and seeing the impact first hand as young girls interacted with the panelists and asked some of the questions on their minds.
The panel was very down-to-earth and forthcoming with the realities of being a growing girl on her way to womanhood. I think the panel did a good job of providing the girls with diverse examples in the various paths that their personal decisions could lead them to. For example, when Angela Simmons shared that at 26, she is still a virgin because she chose to wait for marriage, many of the girls–and grown women for that matter–were in awe of her decision. In that very moment, as a woman who became pregnant while still a teen, I was so appreciative of the strength and self-discipline that she represented in showing something that is becoming more rare generation by generation.
This was truly an event that I was happy to have attended! Check out the SS on the Scene Gallery below:
