I was first introduced to Sake back in 2006.
On October 1st, 2015 (aka World Sake Day) I received “formal education” about the Japanese rice-wine thanks to
Yakitori Boy‘s Sake Hour, an exclusive celebration held in honor of the holiday. I was particularly excited about attending this event because I LOVE Yakitori Boy; this is my favorite spot for sushi (and the best part is that you can call ahead and order to go), not mention that every time I’ve karaoked there (I don’t think karaoked is a word buuuuutttt blame it on the sake) it has proven to be blissfully memorable. This is one place I always recommend, especially for sushi first-timers.
In addition to indulging in a three hour premium sake open bar (Cue the request: “Somebody call an Uber, please!”), Japas (a wide variety of Japanese appetizers which, at Yakitori Boy especially, are absolutely delicious), and karaoke (there was some epic singing going down that night), we also enjoyed an educational wine tasting facilitated by sake expert, Heather Lee. She did a really great job of preparing our palettes for each round of tasting. I won’t lie, sometimes in my head I was like, “Heather, I don’t want to judge but who the hell drinks this kind? Why did you do this to me? Where’s my Kevin Hart voice because I wasn’t ready!” but overall, I appreciated the varieties and enjoyed many of them. And no, I won’t tell you which one I liked and disliked because too many of you will make up your mind before even giving a try and that takes all the fun out of it. *cue evil laugh*

But I will say this: different grades/types of Sake are not for every palette. Just go in with an open mind.
If you didn’t get the chance to celebrate World Sake Day, or you did and just didn’t come to Yakitori Boy, no worries! They did a great job of kicking the month off and they’re closing it out in a ghoulish fashion as only they could! Check out the deets below courtesy of Philly PR Girl:
Halloween is sneaking up fast and Yakitori Boy has plenty of freaky fun planned for Halloweekend, hosting not one but two parties celebrating All Hallow’s Eve!
On October 30 and 31 from 5 p.m. until close, guests will get to enjoy ghoulishly good food and drink specials along with several costume contests. Join Yakitori Boy on Friday for their version of Mischief Night with their Nightmare on Eleventh Street party. Costume enthusiasts are expected to dress to kill on Friday night by wearing their most frightening costumes for a $100 prize! Then, battle it out on Halloween night with their Superheroes vs. Villains bash. See who will come out on top for the best superhero and best villain costume with prizes worth $200.
Patrons can pick their poison among the numerous spooktacular Halloween cocktails that will be served all weekend. Sip on Yakitori Boy’s Green Lantern, The Hulk, or Sleepy Hollow Pumpkin Puree Cocktails. Enjoy eerie eyeball shooters or Halloween Sangria. For beer drinkers, the special of the weekend will be $5 bottles of Captain Lawrence Pumpkin Ale loaded with fall aromas and spices.
Of course, no Yakitori event is complete without the Japas lounge’s most popular activity. Sing your soul out with $2 karaoke song specials on both Friday and Saturday. No tickets necessary!
